Green tea has been used as traditional medicine for many decades. It has been widely used in China, Japan, India and Thailand to help heal wounds, promote digestion, control hemorrhage, regulate body temperature and modulate blood sugar levels. It is not surprising that many have reported that drinking the herbal extract can be very beneficial for our health.

Although the potential benefits of consuming green tea are remarkable, most of them have not been proven by scientific research. In some research, however, the herbal extract has been attributed with the following health benefits:

• It increases the body's metabolism.
• It stimulates crust formation when applied directly to a wound.
• It most prevents tooth decay by destroying bacteria that cause dental plaque.
• It can help someone lose weight in the way that it slows down the weight gain process.

Although drinking green tea is considered safe and natural, it is essential to take products made from the herbal extract under the supervision of the doctor or with care, because, like everything else, it can cause side effects. Remember that the main concern when taking too much green tea is too high a content of caffeine and natural phenolic substances. Among the disadvantages of green tea are:

• Caffeine can pass into breast milk, which causes sleep-related problems in infants. That is why women do not have to use green tea supplements during pregnancy and breastfeeding,

• It can cause excessive stomach acid production, so those who have sensitive stomachs should limit their tea consumption to prevent negative effects, such as reduced appetite, heartburn and diarrhea.

• The caffeine present is risky for people with heart and high blood pressure problems. Such people should take the decaffeinated tea to get the benefit of treating their diseases.

• For weight loss it is not the only and ultimate solution because it can not act quickly. It can not be expected that all the fat will disappear.

• Too much caffeine can cause insomnia, or frequent urination.

• Although natural phenol substructures in tea are beneficial for the prevention of heart disease and cancer, if consumed in a very large amount, they may cause damage to the kidneys and liver due to toxicity.

Given the advantages and disadvantages of green tea, it seems that drinking it to obtain many benefits is good, but consuming more by taking supplements can trigger the risks. Taking up to 10 small cups of tea is good, but taking supplements that contain up to 50x as much natural phenolic substances as an individual cup of tea can be very problematic.
